How to play

  1. Build a guess

Build a guess by choosing four different symbols from the six buttons. Their order matters.

  2. Check your code

Use Erase last to change your selection, then Check code to submit all four symbols.

  3. Read the clues

Read the clue counts: exact means correct symbol and position; misplaced means correct symbol in a different position.

  4. Narrow it down

Use previous guesses to solve the code within eight attempts. Symbols never repeat in the secret.

Inside the game

What is Code Breaker?

Code Breaker is an untimed deduction game using six distinct shapes and a four-position code. No symbol repeats, leaving 360 possible secrets. After each complete guess, the history keeps the symbols and two counts visible. A symbol in the correct position is counted only as exact, not again as misplaced.

How your score works

Cracking the code earns 9 minus the number of guesses: 8 points for a first-guess solve down to 1 point on guess eight. An unsolved eight-guess round saves 0 points and reveals the code. Higher is better. Erasing an unsubmitted symbol does not use an attempt.

Example: read both clue counts

Suppose the secret is triangle, circle, square, diamond. A guess of triangle, square, moon, circle has one exact symbol (triangle) and two misplaced symbols (square and circle). Moon is absent. The on-screen counts do not tell you which symbols earned them.

Playing tips

  1. Separate membership from position

Add exact and misplaced to learn how many of your four symbols belong in the code. Then use changes in the exact count to investigate their order.

  2. Make a guess you can interpret

Change a small part of a previous guess so that the new clue tells you something specific. Keep all earlier clues in view: a proposed secret must agree with every one.

  3. Make each guess test an idea

Keep each clue visible while building your next guess; a useful guess tests an idea.

  4. Separate symbols from order

If exact plus misplaced totals four, you have the right symbols and only need to find their order.

  5. Read the clue as a whole

Clue counts describe the whole guess. They do not line up with individual symbol positions.

No. All four symbols are different, and each submitted guess must also use four different symbols.

No. Exact and misplaced are totals for the whole guess; their position on the screen does not identify a symbol.

Yes. Erase last removes the most recently chosen symbol. Only Check code spends an attempt.

The code is revealed and the round saves zero points. Select New code for a fresh secret and eight new attempts.
