How to play

  1. Read the clue

Each of eight puzzles gives scrambled letters and a clue for one possible answer. Use every letter exactly once.

  2. Build a word

Tap individual tiles or type into Your word, then choose Check word. Repeated letters have separate tiles; use Backspace to correct the order.

  3. Get help when needed

Shuffle changes only the letter order. First-letter hint or Reveal word marks the current word as assisted. Wrong guesses do not end the set.

  4. Review your set

Choose Next word after an accepted answer. Finish all eight to save your unaided-word result and review clues, accepted alternatives and assisted answers.

Inside the game

What is Word Scramble?

Word Scramble rearranges the letters of familiar English words. Each set contains eight puzzles drawn without repeats from our original clue bank. A clue describes one intended word; reviewed common anagrams using exactly the same letters are also accepted. For example, LISTEN and SILENT can both be accepted even when the clue describes listening. This is a word game, not an unscrambler or printable worksheet generator. Daily progress resumes on this device, and Practice leaves that draft alone.

How your score works

Your completed-set score is the number of words solved without requesting a hint or reveal, from 0 to 8. A word remains assisted after a hint even if you later solve it yourself. Wrong guesses and shuffling are free. Every set has eight words, but different words and familiarity affect difficulty. Restoring a completed daily set does not record it twice.

More about your scores →

Example: LISTEN and SILENT

The letters L I S T E N can make LISTEN or SILENT. A clue about paying attention to sound points to LISTEN, but this game also accepts SILENT and the other reviewed common alternatives for that puzzle. Reusing an I twice or leaving out the T is rejected because every original tile must be used once.

Playing tips

  1. Build from a likely ending

Look for a familiar ending such as -ER or -ING before arranging the rest. A clue describes one answer, so its meaning can help you test a likely beginning.

  2. Separate help from an error

A wrong arrangement is a free retry. A first-letter hint or full reveal makes that word assisted for the final result. The review tells you which words you solved without help.

  3. Use the clue as a meaning cue

Say the clue in another way, then look for a familiar ending among the tiles.

  4. Count duplicate letters

Keep repeated letters visible in your mental count: LETTER needs two Es and two Ts.

  5. Try a new arrangement

Shuffle when you keep seeing the same wrong arrangement. It never changes the answer or your score.
