Review your WPM and text accuracy, then restart for another round.

Inside the game

What is Typing Speed?

Typing Speed is a one-minute copying challenge with original English passages. The text highlights correct and incorrect characters as you type. It measures this browser session, including your familiarity with the text and keyboard, rather than assigning a general ability score.

How your score works

WPM is the number of correctly positioned characters, including spaces, divided by five over the 60-second run, rounded to a whole number. Higher is better. Text accuracy is correct retained characters divided by all retained typed characters; corrected mistakes no longer count. An unstarted or restarted run is not saved.

More about your scores →

Example: characters become WPM

If 250 characters are correctly positioned when the minute ends, your result is 250 / 5 = 50 WPM. If you retained 260 typed characters in total, text accuracy is approximately 96%. Spaces and punctuation count as characters.

Playing tips

  1. Keep corrections local

If a letter is wrong, use Backspace before typing more. The highlight compares positions, so an extra character can shift the rest of a sentence.

  2. Use the same input setup

Compare physical-keyboard runs with the same keyboard, or phone runs with the same phone settings. Text predictions and autocorrection can change what you are measuring.

  3. Read a little ahead

Read a few characters ahead while keeping a steady pace.

  4. Correct before continuing

Correct mistakes before continuing so the remaining characters stay in position.

  5. Use the same input method

Compare runs using the same keyboard or phone input method.

Start test prepares the passage. The countdown begins on your first accepted typed character, not when you press Start.

Yes, with the on-screen keyboard. Autocorrect, predictions and keyboard behavior can affect results; compare like-for-like input methods.

When every character matches, another passage appears and the same countdown continues.

No. This is text accuracy for the text you retained, not keystroke accuracy. Backspace removes the wrong character, but the time spent correcting still affects WPM.

Pasting and dropping text are disabled so the task remains a typing exercise.
